clouds laden with grey
and oceans swimming with release.
I am from the black piano
(Still; waiting
It made beautiful songs)
I am from the long tree’s trunk
and the playground’s swings and slides
that I have long outgrown.
I am from “Halmoni’s Special Noodles” and Gameboy Color
from Ash Ketchum and Tai Kamiya.
I am from the sewer bridge,
the blue jump rope and concrete walls.
I am from Saibaba,
ohm shri sai ram, shanti,
and prayer beads that are mine to hold.
I am from Abe and Sayeh’s stores
new leather and cotton jackets.
From my great-grandmother’s hospital bed,
silver rails and the smell of death.
From the friends never seen again,
from the family that was left behind.
That red box in the closet,
old smiles and fading memories
sit in albums, forever hidden.
From these; I am from:
A life that is no longer mine.
